Role description: Experience Designer

Experience Design requires strong capabilities in interactive problem solving and the ability to make digital experiences as simple and useable as possible. This position requires knowledge of various design software tools for prototyping and designing visual elements of digital projects. It also requires the ability to collaborate well with visual designers, writers, digital producers, and project managers.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Collaborate with assignment stakeholders to identify and understand both business and user needs.
  2. Gather necessary project background information such as competitive analysis, data mining, topical research, or user research.
  3. Participate in conceptual development with the rest of the creative team.
  4. Develop navigational hierarchies and effectively visualize key concepts of site structure and user pathways. Create and be accountable for the user interaction model, workflows, information architecture, schematics, and prototypes.
  5. Develop user experience guidelines and user interface specifications. Ensure the design adheres to accessibility and usability standards.
  6. Collaborate with visual designers to refine the interactive experience and retain a user focus. Find ways to make complex information and interaction as simple as possible.
  7. Work closely with visual designer to realize the designs. Work hand in hand with web developers, programmers and software engineers to deliver the final product.
  8. Effectively communicate and collaborate with members of management and production staff.
  9. Work closely with software developers and quality assurance staff during implementation and testing.

Qualifications

Thorough understanding of user experience disciplines including interaction design, information architecture, usability, user research, and information design.

  • Experience applying a variety of user experience methods and techniques.
  • Proven critical thinking skills.
  • Familiarity with web standards and accessibility.
  • Experience with prototyping tools.
  • Experience working with graphic designers.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative, environment.
  • Ideally an MA or BA in Interaction Design, Visual Communication, or equivalent.
